Sea Lion Encounter Overview

These sleek marine mammals are highly intelligent and enjoy playing with visitors to our campus. Sea Lions are the bewhiskered clowns of the ocean; they enjoy frolicking with humans and each other in our saltwater pools. The Sea Lion Encounter allows participants to learn about our sea lion family and actually meet them in a secure shallow-water environment. Since the water in this area only reaches an adult’s waist, it is a much more controlled place to engage with the sea lions as opposed to a deep water pool.  You’ll be delighted as they swim into this shallow pool and begin to show off with an array of acrobatic feats and mischievous tricks. These marine mammals have quite an impish sense of humor. The Sea Lions are also quite sociable with visitors and enjoy touching, cuddling, and even occasionally kissing people. The Sea Lions will remind you of large aquatic dogs because of how effortlessly they appear to interact with human beings.
